The Air Hockey playbook
Start Air Hockey by looking at the playing area and its controls. Score seven goals before the computer. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions. Check the rule that explains your first action. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move.
Move your paddle against a computer opponent and score through the opposite goal.
Practice with a purpose
Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use. Refer to the controls when needed.
Aim for this result
Score seven goals before the computer. Use the instructions to see which actions move you towards it. Check the rules when you are unsure.
The playing sequence
- Start.
- Move your mallet within the lower half.
- Strike toward the upper goal.
- Goals reset the puck.
Getting comfortable with the controls
Mouse/touch movement or Left/Right controls. Use the control method described here for this activity. Make sure you are interacting with the game rather than the surrounding page.
One way to understand the rules
An angled hit can bank off a side wall. Use the example as a guide rather than a substitute for reading your board. Notice the change in the playing area.
Watch out for this
You cannot move into the computer’s half. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Before your first action, say what you are trying to achieve. Then compare the result with the goal.
